Meet Paul Kinberg, DPM

Meet the Expert

Dr. Paul Kinberg has served the Dallas community in general podiatric practice with a surgical and wound care subspecialty since 1974. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine.

In September 2006, Dr. Kinberg was named as One of America’s 175 Most Influential Podiatrists by Podiatry Management Magazine and has been renamed One of America’s Most Influential Podiatrists by Podiatry Management Magazine in January 2012.

While in practice, Dr. Kinberg has held numerous elected and appointed positions within the podiatry profession. Within his home state of Texas, he has held all the elected positions in the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, including president (1988-1989). In 2004 Dr. Kinberg received the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Podiatric Medical Association.

Nationally, he has been a delegate to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) House of Delegates (HOD) since 1988 and currently serves as Chief Delegate from Texas to the APMA HOD. He has been a member of the APMA Coding Committee from 1991 to 2002 and again from 2008 to present, serving as chair from 2009 to 2016. He was also a member of the APMA Health Policy Committee from 2003 to 2008.

In the surgical arena, Dr. Kinberg was president of Division III of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) from 1991 to 1992. He then served as chairman of the ACFAS House of Councilors and a member of the ACFAS Board of Directors from 1994 to 1996.

Currently, Dr. Kinberg is active in the field of quality assurance and utilization review, serving as the podiatric consultant to Novitas Solutions, the (JH) Medicare Administrative Contractor for Texas as a member of their Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee. He also serves as a medical reviewer and sits on committees of several national insurance companies. In addition, he has assisted various agencies of our federal government in medical review activities.

Dr. Kinberg earned his Certified Surgical Foot and Ankle Coder (CSFAC) designation from the American Academy of Professional Coders, and also serves as a consultant to codingline.com. He has lectured extensively on topics of medical management, medical coding and insurance reimbursement. For his work on advancing the podiatric profession in the ICD-10 coding scheme, Dr. Kinberg was given the Award of Excellence from the American Podiatric Medical Association in March 2016.

In 2003, Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed Dr. Kinberg to a six-year term on the Texas State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (TSBPME). He also served as a clinical investigator for the TSBPME from 2012 – 2018.
